I could not have been more proud of these young ladies following our match against top-of-the-league Finch Green. We knew it would be a tough challenge, and the key aims were to narrow the score gap from our previous meeting by playing smart netball, looking after the ball in possession, and working hard to dictate the opposition. The girls certainly rose to the challenge, nearly doubling the number of goals scored against Finch compared to our last encounter earlier in the season.
This was truly a whole-squad performance, and it was impossible to select just one Coach’s Player of the Match — the award went to the entire team for their determination to keep playing strong netball and for consistently actioning what was asked of them. It was fantastic to see what we have been working on in training transferred onto the court.
There were some lovely passages of play into the goal circle, with excellent timing, movement to create space, and well-weighted feeds. Defensively, the work rate was outstanding, with great efforts to dictate where the opposition could move, along with some superb runs onto the ball resulting in tips and clean interceptions.
Overall, this was a vastly improved performance compared to the match at the start of the season and a real reflection of the team’s development.
Congratulations to Ffion and Maddie for earning Opposition Player of the Match. Both interchanged at WD and C and played pivotal roles in connecting the two ends of the court, while also picking up some excellent interceptions. A huge congratulations to the entire squad for Coach’s Player of the Match — a truly outstanding team performance, with everyone giving 110%, rotating positions without question, and carrying out their roles with commitment and confidence.
