This was, in many ways, a frustrating game because it was one the girls could absolutely have won—we were so close! It truly was a game of two halves: we lost the first half 22–15, but came back brilliantly to win the second half 21–17. It was a fantastic fightback from the whole squad, and a clear sign of how far we’ve come. As the team grows more familiar with playing together, the bonds are strengthening, and those narrow losses will soon become wins.

As I keep saying, there are some quick fixes that will make a big difference. We need to lift our shooting percentage. We proved we can shoot under pressure—the second half showed that clearly. We also need to cut down on unforced errors; footwork calls are a coach-killer! Improving decision-making is another key area, but again, the second half—especially the last quarter—showed real progress. The girls adapted brilliantly when Maddie had to come off, and everyone showed real composure. We’re getting there, and the wins will come.

Congratulations to Evie and Paige for Opposition Player of the Match, and to Paige for Coach’s Player of the Match. Evie was outstanding in our attacking end and crucial in the shooting circle, keeping a calm, steady head. Paige worked tirelessly in defence and made an impact in all three defensive positions she played. In the final quarter, her movement around the GS was excellent, and combined with the collective defensive pressure, made it hard for Magnet to move the ball into their shooters.
