This was the final game for Sabers in the BJNL, and it was great to see them finish the season with a win against Woodley.
Sabers started strong, winning the first quarter 12–3. The girls were on fire, with the slick flow of ball into the shooting circle and excellent conversions from our shooters.
The second quarter was a different story. Sabers managed to score only two goals compared to Woodley’s eight. Woodley came out determined to disrupt our game, and we lost momentum through several unforced errors and missed shots.
What was great to see was how the girls regrouped after halftime. They went on to win both the third and fourth quarters, 8–4 and 7–5 respectively, finishing with a strong 29–20 victory. It was a fantastic team effort.
Well done to Savannah and Flora for CPOM, and to Flora and Chloe for OPOM. Flora was instrumental in defence, collecting crucial tips and clean interceptions in the opposition’s shooting circle, even when facing a two-on-one situation. Savannah’s attacking movement was slick, with excellent timing and smart movement to get free, and she fed the circle well. Chloe had a tough battle against the Woodley GK but stood strong, producing excellent shooting statistics in the first quarter. After a difficult second quarter, she showed great determination to regroup, adjusting her play and confidently sinking pressure shots.
Well done to these girls and to the whole team, who have been a pleasure to coach. It has been wonderful to see how much they have progressed throughout the season.
