What an incredible contest and an unbelievable comeback from both sides. Leopards came out strong, taking control of the first quarter with a confident 11–5 lead, putting Fareham under real pressure. There was lovely movement of the ball to goal and our shooters converted well. Also defensive pressure was strong especially at the back-end of the first quarter where we had a run of 5 goals leading up to the whistle.
However, Fareham responded brilliantly. They came out fighting in the second quarter, bringing on a very physical game, which impacted our flow. They went on to win the next two quarters 9–5 and 13–5, turning the game on its head and giving them a 27–21 lead going into the final quarter. The second and third quarters were tough going, reflected in the stats. Out of 17 centre passes only 7 were converted, shooting accuracy dipped heavily and unforced errors crept into our game.
But the story was far from over, there was a phenomenal final-quarter fight back from the girls. We converted 9 out of 10 centre passes and our shooting stats leapt up to 93%, we won the last quarter 13-7, bringing the score level. Smart decision-making, improved ball control, and relentless defensive pressure—especially from the circle defenders—created the turnovers needed to get back in the game.
Congratulations to Jess and Ellie for OPOM and to Ellie and Lola for CPOM. Jess was pivotal in the attacking end, moving the ball confidently to goal and sinking crucial shots. Ellie delivered a brave and gritty performance against a key opponent, absorbing physical pressure (hope the nose is okay!). She was also instrumental in transitioning the ball back up the court. Lola’s movement in the defensive circle was exceptional—hustling, confusing space, forcing errors, and picking up vital turnover ball. The Ellie–Lola circle defence combination was outstanding.
This was a brilliant effort from the whole squad, true composure and fight shown, especially in that last quarter. Well done, all!
