Panthers Jaguars stepped onto court for their first ever Regional U14 match, and what a season opener it turned out to be. After weeks of bad luck with injuries and constant reshuffling, this squad has had every reason to feel unsettled — yet their response has been nothing short of exceptional. With some brilliant new additions and only two weeks together as a full squad, the girls have been working incredibly hard in training to build connections, trust, and flow. Today showed exactly why that work matters.
? **A Nervy Start, but a Strong First Half
The opening quarter carried all the emotions you’d expect: nerves, excitement, and the weight of a first Regional appearance. That combination led to a few unusual lapses in judgement — rushed passes, hesitations, and errors that aren’t typical of this group.
Even so, Jaguars held their ground. They maintained the lead throughout the first half, though it was a narrow one at just five goals, showing both their potential and their determination to steady themselves under pressure.
? **Second Half Strength & Composure**
After halftime, the squad returned with a different energy. Composed, confident, and far more connected, Jaguars began to show glimpses of the strength and depth this team will grow into as the season unfolds. The ball movement sharpened, defensive pressure increased, and the attacking end found its rhythm.
The second half was undeniably stronger, and Jaguars pushed on with maturity and control to secure a well‑deserved opening‑round win in their first ever Regional game.
? **Players of the Match**
It was genuinely difficult to choose Coaches POM — every player who stepped onto court delivered, and the pride in this squad is immense.
**Opposition’s POM – Niamh**
Awarded for her dominance in defence, shutting down options and applying relentless pressure.
-**Opposition’s POM – Evie**
Recognised for her outstanding work rate and defensive pressure from the attacking end.
-**Coaches’ POM – Thea**
For her strength in the goal circle and her fight for turnovers in the second half, shifting momentum when it mattered.
**Coaches’ POM – Issy W**
For her speed, grit, and composure in attack — driving play forward and providing stability through court.
This was an outstanding first game for a squad still finding its feet. There are clear areas for refinement, but the foundations are strong, the attitude is exceptional, and the potential is huge.
Well done girls — immensely proud of what you put out on court. Jaguars are only going to get stronger from here.
