The U16s began the match with a strong and determined first quarter, coping well with early pressure from the opposition. The defensive unit quickly showed their tenacity, disrupting attacking play and forcing errors with well-timed challenges and tight marking. Their work rate set the tone for the rest of the team and prevented the opposition from settling into their attacking rhythm.
In the second quarter, the team continued to move the ball confidently through the court despite heavy contest for possession. The mid-court worked hard to create space and provide options, linking effectively with the shooters and maintaining good flow in attack. The players showed resilience and composure, continuing to apply the skills they have been developing in training.
The defence truly shone in the third quarter, producing several excellent interceptions and turnovers. Their anticipation and teamwork created valuable opportunities for the attacking end, and the shooters capitalised well by converting these chances into goals. This period of play highlighted the strong connection between defence and attack and demonstrated the team’s growing confidence.
The fourth quarter began with a few longer passes that could have been played shorter and safer. While this led to some lost possession, it provided a valuable learning point for the team about decision-making under pressure. Despite this, the players continued to work hard until the final whistle.
Overall, the team finished with a much tighter goal difference than in their previous meeting with this opposition, clearly demonstrating their progress both as individual units and as a cohesive team. Their determination, teamwork, and willingness to learn made this a very positive performance and a strong step forward for the squad.
