A great first country game today for all the girls. Although having 6 throughout the first quarter and just 7 for the rest of the match the girls brought the energy and intensity throughout. Our shooting found consistently high accuracy in all 4 quarters (Evie, Chloe, Izzy and Willow.) Big shoutout to Willow for giving GS a go today. We were tenacious in defence, and I was so impressed with the supportive comments coming from the girls on court to each other. Despite all the girls playing a full 60 minutes we kept a high intensity. The girls responded to the feedback given and applied it to their play on court. They were confident on their release, giving a large amount of successful 1 second release passes, which therefore allowed us to have amazing speed through court. I was particularly impressed with the high number of ‘slick’ centre passes, where we would find a goal within 3 passes. We utilised swings in attack and consistently hit pocket and top to find ideal feeding position. As discussed our 3 ‘work ons’ moving forward are; composure after a turnover, and most importantly providing a short option to that player to release the pressure. Handling let us down today so ensuring we snatch in those passes. Lastly the lack of front cuts, we seemed much more comfortable to take the back space and ask for an overhead pass however i would have loved to see if we could front cut more.
Individual standout strengths:
Paige (CPOM) - her resilience in adapting her play to her shooter and her ability to come off the body to go for ball.
Neala (CPOM) - her backing up and get in the air for the turnover was brilliant, such a huge number of interceptions.
Willow - no complaint on giving GS a try and scored several goals in there! Great edging in defence leading to confusion for the oppositions feeder and therefore putting doubt in their mind.
Maddie - Warrioir in defence and brought calmness to the attack end.
Izzy - Insane speed today and was patient when feeding the circle.
Evie - brilliant drives down the middle opening up the court. Great strength in the circle allowing her to scoop up a huge amount of rebounds.
Chloe - strong prescene in the circle, removing often to always be an offer for her teammates. 2 brilliant interceptions today due to her defensive pressure
